(Random House Dictionary)
Background:
All his life Robby was nothing. He wasn’t especially good at school, and didn’t play any sport. He didn’t have any artistic ability nor any special areas of interest. To put it simply, he was completely unremarkable. If you would just take him and erase his existence, it’s more likely than not that no-one would even notice.
Robby graduated from school just like he went through it – completely unremarkably. Not with flying colors, but not failing either. He went on to get an unremarkable job as an assembly worker in a local factory, just like his father. He led on an unremarkable life for the next three years, until the day of the explosion.
It was a typical day in the factory, until the main reactor exploded. To this day it is unknown if it had been sabotaged, or if it was just a freak accident. The factory started to burn, and the security officer rushed everyone out before the support beams gave way and the roof crashed. A quick head-count was carried out and everyone was accounted for, except for one – Geoffrey Drake, Robby’s father.
Disregarding his own safety and the orders of the security officer, Robby rushed back in to find his father. After almost getting lost in the fire and the smoke, he found his father and started dragging him out, until a minor secondary explosion sent them both flying at the wall, almost killing them. At the instant of the explosion, something snapped inside Robby. Not knowing quite how, he began to draw the fire’s heat and energy into him, cooling down the surrounding. A thin layer of black ice formed on his skin, where no heat or light was left at all.
The eruption of mutant activity alerted The Unlikely X-Men who quickly arrived at the scene and assisted with the evacuation. Draped in cold and darkness, a new hero was born. X-Tinguish.
Personality:
Despite his remarkable powers, deep down inside, Robby is still that plain, unremarkable kid. Even though his is arguably one of the most powerful members of The Unlikely X-Men, he is very unconfident of himself and his powers. This lack of confidence usually manifests itself by trying too hard to prove his worth to the team, even though he is preaching to the converted.
Appearance:
As every other aspect of his life, even Robby’s looks are completely unremarkable, or at least were. He is of average height (1.68m) and weight (70kg). He has short brown hair and his eyes are brown-green. He dresses in whatever clothes would be appropriate for the time and place, once again, never standing out.
When he turns into X-Tinguish, a layer of black ice covers his entire body, not only concealing his identity, but also protecting him from harm.
Powers/Tactics:
Robby mutant power is his ablility to absorb any heat or light in his presence, adding their energy to his own. He does this instinctively, without any conscious control. But when he focuses his will, he can control this power, effectively creating and controlling the lack of heat and light – black ice.
X-Tinguish will usually coat himself with a protective armor made out of black ice. He moves around by creating huge slides from black ice, on which he can move at an impressive speed. He can also create storms of black hail or black snow to harm his opponents and even erect a wall of solid black ice to protects his friends or trap his opponents in it.
The -¼ limitation ice powers isn’t exactly identical to not in extremely hot or dry conditions. As you could guess, heat doesn’t really bother X-Tinguish at all. What this disadvantage means is that the effects of all his powers are made from black ice. For example, a heat beam targeted at his slide could disable his Flight, and he would fall, at least until he can reform it (i.e., his next action phase).
Notes:
X-Tinguish is in fact a remake of the villain Black Ice from my first champions campaign – Dawn of HEROes. X-Tinguish’s power level is somewhat toned down compared to Black Ice, and his personality and background are completely different.
