Background:
Eve was born to a couple of semi-high ranking Imperial citizens and brought up to believe in the ways The Cardinal dictated. It was only natural, albeit completely unacceptable by her parents, that when she came of age she left home and joined The Brotherhood, seeking to become another mortal vessel for the divine teaching. After completing her training, she was sent to manage a small church in the heart of the Bauhaus slums.
For three years she run that church, bringing hope to the hopeless, negotiating between rivals, steering her heard away from the evils modern life could present and upholding the teachings of her beloved Cardinal.
It was a simple negotiation between two rivaling gangs. Somewhere, someone got a little too nervous and drew a gun. And then all hell broke loose. Fire and death where everywhere. Eve was severely injured, hit in the head and would probably finish her life as a vegetable (and that too, only thanks to her family’s funds that kept her on breathing machines).
And then her uncle found her. As a brilliant young computer scientist, he had left the family’s ways years ago and followed the big bucks offered to him by Cybertronics Corporation. He pulled a few strings, bribed a few people and double crossed a few others to fund her a complete rebuild. In fact, he was a visionary. For years now it was obvious that science and technology are just another religion, and every religion needs its preachers…
Now, Eve has reopened her church. She preaches for a better life through the embrace of technology and tells the tales of a glorious future, where the human race would leap on to the next stage of evolution by becoming one with machines.
Personality:
Eve is a religious fanatic. She sees no further than her own small beliefs and cannot accept the fact that others do not necessarily share them. She views herself as an instrument of faith and sums up her life to nothing more. She has no hobbies, no interests and no real friends – only her quest.
Appearance:
In layman’s terms, Eve is a cybernetic monstrosity. She stands almost 1.80 meters tall and seems like a cybernetically constructed angel born in the depths of a very sick mind. Her skin has been replaced by a patented Cybertronics semi-organic material which was designed to stop bullets, not to look attractive. Most of her head and neck has been augmented with various cybernetic implants, leaving few of her original, human, features.
But without a doubt, her most notable feature are the two giant metallic wings sprouting form her back. When she is on the ground they make her seem somewhat clumsy, but when she takes to the air, she glides through the city skies with the grace of an angel.
Powers/Tactics:
All of Eve’s “powers” derive from her cybernetic implants. Her eyes and ears have been augmented extensively, allowing her high perceptive senses over a wide spectrum of frequencies and wave lengths. Her bio-cybernetic skin has some bullet-proof qualities although not enough to really make her immune to them. Her huge wings cannot be used for flight (since she doesn’t have any muscles that could operate them), but she can use them for gliding.
Eve would normally prefer to avoid combat, but if cornered she could use her wings to bat foes, or if really forced to defend herself, she’ll use a small standard-issue Cybertronics pistol (2d6-1K, +1 RMod, 15 bullet clip).
Notes:
I admit I drifted quite far from the song lyrics with this character write-up. Basically I took two lines – “Burn your bridges, build them back with wealth” and “You lie so much you believe yourself” and just went crazy with them.
Chronicles HERO is a name invented by a friend of mine for his HERO System campaign for the Mutant Chronicles (© and to Target Games) game.
Campaign Use:
Most of Eve’s campaign uses are as a conflict point between The Brotherhood and Cybertronics. Eve could try to convert the player characters to her new religion (which could be especially interesting if one of them is an Inquisitor or a Doomtrooper), or they could be sent by the Brotherhood to kill her (“to redeem her soul”).
More generally speaking, Eve can always be brought up in the background to remind the players what happens when religion gets pushed too far.
