Nothing Else Matters

Nothing Else Matters

So close not matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All those words I don’t just say
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close not matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All those words I don’t just say
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And Nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close not matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No nothing else matters

Campaign: Future HEROes (Star HERO)

Background:
Jade was born roughly sixteen years ago. Who her parents were is unknown, and is of no interest to anyone. This is because Jade is a telepath, a psyonic. She was diagnosed as one on birth, and immediately ‘recruited’ by PSI (Psyonic Secretive Investigations) – a highly confidential government agency mandated to handle psyonically gifted citizens. From her very first day, she was raised and taken care of by PSI. She never met her parents, nor did they ever see her. They were told she was stillborn, and she was told that they didn’t want her because she was a freak. The day she was born was the last time she saw the light of day. She was taken into PSI’s top secret underground facility, and has never left it since.
Under the guidance and training of her instructors at PSI, Jade learnt how to fulfill her true potential, to utilize her extraordinary mental abilities to the fullest. She was trained to do the dirty work the government could not do in any legal form. She was trained to extract information from the minds of supposedly trust-worthy men. She was trained to break people’s will and bend it to her command. She was trained to wrap a person’s mind in an illusion so real, he could actually die from it. A clean, untraceable, death.
By the age of ten, she had seen all the dirty parts of life few get to see, and none deserve to. She had spied, tortured and killed in the name of causes that were never explained to her, and that she did not believe in. By the age of twelve she was already burnt out. She did not dare to disobey her superiors directly, but she worked without passion or dedication. She became sloppy, which meant she became dangerous to keep.
Her commanding officer took a bet and won the jackpot. He teamed her up with one of PSI’s field-operatives named Josef. Jade would ‘ride’ in Josef’s mind, experiencing what the real world had to offer through his senses. Suddenly, she had found a new reason to live. Her life beforehand seemed empty, cold and barren without the constant connection to another mind and the new experiences it brought with it.
Jade is now sixteen, and has been working with Josef for almost two years. Despite her newly found reason for life, deep down inside she is still the same. She does PSI’s dirty work because she needs to, not because she wants to or because she believes it’s the right thing to do. And Josef, her soul-mate, shares these feelings. Their superiors in PSI are currently unaware of this, but it is just a matter of time until they do. And there’s no telling what might happen when they do.

Personality:
For her entire life, Jade has lived in PSI. She has never actually ventured outside of it, or had any contact with the real world except through her connection to Josef. She has absolutely no idea how the real world, or its moral and ethical structures work.
On the other hand, she doesn’t really believe in what she is doing for PSI. She has managed to piece together for herself that killing is bad, yet she has no choice, and no real conviction in this notion. The only thing that she is truly devoted to is her soul-mate, Josef. She feels incomplete without him, as if one of her limbs was severed. And after experiencing the real world through Josef’s senses, the cold sterile labs at PSI simply don’t seem enough anymore.

Appearance:
Jade is an average-sized sixteen year old girl. Although she is well fed and taken care of at PSI, sitting in the Mental Augmentation Station (see Powers/Tactics) for days at a time has given her quite a poor physique. Her skin is pale, almost albino-like for lack of exposure to the sun.
On her right cheek she has a tattoo marking her as a PSI operative, designed to help identify her if she ever escapes. On her temple about it, a few cybernetic implants are visible.

Powers/Tactics:
As her stats shown, Jade is a formidable mentalist. She is usually quite straight-forward with her methods, and not as subtle as other mentalists might be. But like a sledgehammer – no one can deny she is effective.
She is trained both as a psychic spy (ripping secrets out of other’s minds) or, more often, as an assassin. If she has her way, she will wrap the victims mind in an illusion so real he could not deny or disbelieve it. This scenario will quickly lead him to a gruesome death, with no fingerprints or murder weapon left as evidence.
PSI have made a few ‘modifications’ to her, which allow her to connect herself to a Mental Augmentation Station which gives her the strength to perform these draining mental activities, and also slightly enhances her powers.
Jade never travels or leaves PSI. Josef does all the traveling and moving around, with Jade a resident presence in the back of his mind, sending her mental senses all around her, gathering more information than Josef could alone. And when they decide the time is right, she will also strike.

Notes:
Finally, the last character in The Black Project is done! Hura!

Campaign Use:
Jade will probably never be encountered directly, but Josef might. Slowly, the characters will learn about Jade’s existence, and from here the sky is the limit. The characters could be investigators investigating a series of unexplainable deaths, with Josef showing up all the time, but with no hard evidence against him. Or they could be government agents sent to work with Josef and discover who he really is during the campaign.
