(Random House Dictionary)

Background:
Jonathan Swift (Jon to his friends) was a pretty normal kid born to a pretty normal family. Quite athletic, put nothing paranormal. When he reached high school he started getting serious about athletics and joined the school’s running team. He turned out to be quite a good athlete, and after winning some national events he was accepted to the local community college on a scholarship. Working hard through college he built a name for himself, and went on to become a professional after he graduated. Three years later he was named for the national Olympic squad.
It started out as a dream coming true. He had won gold medals for the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes, breaking Olympic records on his way. In the middle of the 800 meter dash his powers broke out and super sped him past the finish line, straight out of the stadium and up to the beach before he understood what happened to him (hitting the 200 KPH mark on the way, not only breaking the record, but smashing it). Being a mutant, he was automatically disqualified, and his gold medals stripped of him.
Jon was devastated. For weeks he didn’t even leave his house. After an attempted assassination by the Friends of Humanity that was interrupted by The Unlikely X-Men, he reluctantly joined the team. He is now a fully active member, although he is still trying to understand and fully control his powers.

Personality:
Jon has mixed emotions about his powers. On the one hand he hates his powers for ruining his dream and his entire life with it. On the other hand, although he won’t admit it to anyone, he is slowly and steadily becoming addicted to the adrenaline rush he gets when exerting himself to the limit, despite the danger this addiction holds. Moreover, after being disqualified from the Olympics, Jon is obsessed with proving that he is more than the sum of his powers, more than “just a mutant”.

Appearance:
Jon is quite an ordinary looking young man, for an Olympic athlete. Like most Olympic runners he is slightly shorter than average and has a slender build without an ounce of excess fat on his body.
As Jonathan Swift he favors sporty clothes like training sweaters and jogging pants, although he will wear whatever is appropriate to the situation he is in.
As X-Press he wears a full black and blue body suit that absorbs sweat and helps him cool down, complete with an aerodynamically designed mask and gloves to hide his identity. Like all other Unlikely X-Men, he has a bright red X painted on his chest.

Powers/Tactics:
As a novice superhero, Jon isn’t a very sophisticated combatant. He never formally learnt how to fight, and he just relies on his superspeed to cover for his lack of skill. His preferred tactic is to zoom into a fight, knock everyone senseless (hopefully) before they even know what hit them and to zoom out. He doesn’t wear any armor and relies on his speed to dodge and avoid attacks, or even to catch projectiles thrown at him and throw them back at his attacker (yes, he is fast enough to catch bullets, and even fast enough to throw them back with the speed they would have leaving a barrel of a gun).
Jon’s powers have only just recently manifested and his system hasn’t fully adapted to them yet. Although he is extremely fast, his powers take a heavy toll on him, and he tires quickly when using them.
Because of his increased metabolism, Jon is quite vulnerable to poisons and other chemicals, since they spread faster in his system. He is also more vulnerable to chokes, since his body takes up an enormous amount of oxygen just to keep working.

Notes:
The trick with buying Flight twice, once for sprints and once for long runs (with the noncombat modifier), is a dirty trick, I know. But it’s still legal.
The disadvantage for “Punching All Over the Show” means that he has a total of 10 shots he can distribute as he sees fit within the area of effect, and not ten shots per target as he would have without this limitation.
